Join us in marking 80 years since this historic event by lighting a beacon up at Dial Rocks

The 6th of June 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day when Allied forces mounted the largest amphibious invasion the world has ever witnessed.
In 1944 Operation Overlord saw around 4,000 ships and landing craft set down about 132,500 troops on five Normandy beaches in an action that would bring about the liberation of north-west Europe from Nazi occupation.
Join us in marking 80 years since this historic day by lighting a beacon up at Dial Rocks and coming together as an island. There will be a small popup bar serving refreshments; otherwise, this is an entirely free event to mark this momentous occasion.
Please note: this event is weather permitting, and we recommend wearing substantial footwear and bringing a torch, as there will be no lighting to allow the beacon to shine brightly.
“To commemorate the peace and freedom given to us through the bravery and ultimate sacrifice of so many thousands involved in the D-Day landings, and throughout the whole of WWII, beacons and Lamp Lights of Peace will be lit across the United Kingdom - and in a very poignant and unique gesture, a special Lamp Lights of Peace lamps will be lit on each of the five beaches in Normandy, at 9.15pm local time that night..."
