Gallery Tresco

Located in the most enviable of positions on New Grimsby shoreline, Gallery Tresco is a haven for art lovers. Some of Cornwall’s finest art can be found on the walls of this light and airy converted boatshed, which has been open for over 20 years.

Between the months of March and November the gallery will host 10 exhibitions giving a platform to both established and new painters. In addition, the gallery features sculptures in bronze and wood, ceramics, studio glass, jewellery in gold and silver as well as precious and semi-precious stones, not to mention all the wonderfully creative giftware that emerges year after year. To see examples of work from many of the artists who show at the Gallery please click on our Tresco Artists link below.

Worth a mention too, is the permanent Metal Sculpture exhibition by Tom Leaper featured within the Tresco Abbey Garden. Tom has created a large body of work which can be seen on the walls within the Garden and integrated into the flowerbeds, expressing how contemporary art can sit easily within a traditional surrounding. His large sculptures are also to be found within Smith Square and in the courtyard at Hell Bay Hotel. Another artist whose work can be seen outside of the gallery setting is ceramicist Adrian Brough. In 2012 Adrian was commissioned to decorate the pizza oven at the Ruin Beach Cafe. Adrian designed and fired a tile panel to cover the outside of the oven with spectacular success. He also made the floor tiles for the mosaic shell house created by Lucy Dorrien-Smith in the Abbey Garden. Enquiries about commissions by Tom and Adrian can be made at Gallery Tresco.

If you are planning to visit the islands you may want to spend time viewing the Tresco Art Collection, some of which is housed at the Flying Boat Club and on Bryher at the Hell Bay Hotel. It is a rare opportunity to find such a noteworthy collection made so accessible to the public. The Collection continues throughout Tresco where original works from artists such as John Miller, Mary Fedden, Kurt Jackson, Patrick Heron and Anthony Frost can be seen in the cottages – a unique feature in a holiday home.

Gallery Tresco will be open from the17th March. To contact us call +44 (0)1720 424925, email or see our facebook page Visit us for the day or stay on the island at the New Inn or in one of the rental cottages.

We look forward to welcoming you.
