Years of service
We are so grateful to our wonderful team who work tirelessly to ensure the best for Tresco and its community. Recently, three of them celebrated major milestones
Tresco certainly gets under the skin. In fact, many people arrive on a whim and end up staying for much longer than first expected. As such, there are lots of characters who live and work on the island for a long time and they become part of the furniture. Guests and locals keep an eye out for them year on year and they give their everything to keeping the island beautiful, to looking after our guests and to ensuring that the Tresco legacy lives on.
Three examples of this steadfastness, hard work and loyalty come in the form of Steve Parkes, Andrew Lawson and Dave Johnson - all of whom celebrated major milestones this year.
Steve Parkes
Andrew Lawson
After first visiting Tresco in 1976, and then becoming propagator in 1985, Head Abbey Gardener Andrew Lawson has now worked on Tresco for 40 years. Constantly in awe of the temperate Tresco climate and the tropical plants that thrive here, Andrew knows every terrace, nook, cranny and glade in the garden like the back of his hand. He must have planted thousands of seedlings over the years and it is a wonderful landmark. Thank you Andrew for all your hardwork for making Tresco Abbey Garden the attraction it is today.
Dave Johnson
Greeting guests and ensuring a safe landing for helicopter passengers is Dave Johnson, who celebrated 30 years on Tresco this year. Dave's face is familiar to many as, after moving to Tresco in 1995, he drove the Tractor Bus that greeted all arriving and departing guests. He was at the helm of the tractor - and later the electric shuttle bus! - until becoming a member of the Heliport fire crew where he works to this day. Thank you to Dave for his service over the years - the miles traversed via tractor must be in the thousands!
