Tresco & Bryher Cricket Club have not had the most outstanding of seasons in terms of victories (it took us until August to win our first match) but it has certainly been a very enjoyable summer.

As part of the one year scholarship at Tresco Abbey Garden, the students have the option of working in another garden for two weeks, to get a flavour of gardening in a different environment.

In all the years that I spent as a gardener on Tresco, I never had much of an inclination towards the bramble as a plant.

With the purpose of investigating 17th century tin mining on Tresco with mining heritage expert and geologist Barry Gamble, a small group of Tresco residents took the plunge into Piper’s Hole last week.

Tresco Abbey Garden is home to a collection of ships figureheads and other artefacts that come from shipwrecks that took place on and around the Isles of Scilly.

Through the art and knowledge of Sipsmith’s ace mixologist Jared Brown, the Ruin Beach Cafe is now serving a brand new martini with a distinctive Scillonian twist….ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Trescotini.

Take a stroll through the dunes from Carn Near to Great Rock and you will find yourself walking through swathes of wild agapanthus growing in the marram, bracken and heather.

There may have been a little bit of rain in the air but Tresco’s Jubilee Beacon was anything but a damp squib.

For this month’s blog I thought it would be interesting to give you an idea of what it’s like to work in Tresco Abbey Garden, so I’m documenting a day in the life of Dave Inch, the propagator in the garden.

Spring is definitely in the air here at Tresco Abbey Garden!

It never really occurred to me, or rather, I never spent any time pondering the existence of emergency services, on the Isles of Scilly in general, and on Tresco in particular, until recently, that is, when I had reason to avail of them.
