Tresco inspires through its other world beauty and serenity, eliciting a sense of quiet adoration and deep gratitude, for this radiant pearl of an isle.
...for this year I felt inspired to paint the islands in their summer colours bright, beautiful and full of joy..
...all the paintings in this exhibition have painted here on Tresco
It was really great to get back to painting the islands again after last year's break. I hope you enjoy the results.
I am attracted to images which have strong contrasts of light and shade, and these can be both portraits and landscapes.
Whether I’m enjoying blistering calm or howling wind, it’s always a privilege to paint the Isles of Scilly.
My residency in February exposed me to the weather of Storm Ciara. Heavy skies, white shell-sand and aqua water created dramatic colour for me to enjoy in paint.
The changing light, vast open skies and vivid colours that dominate Scilly where my main focus alongside the shimmering white sands and azure waters that populate many happy memories.
For this year’s paintings I chose to concentrate on the wooded pathways that lead to the four corners of the island with its many vistas and resting places.
This year I have included in my carvings a couple of new birds - the black swans and some old favourites.
This collection of paintings are from a number of trips to the Isles of Scilly, they reflect my interest in the changing nature of the tides.
Watching the shadows make dark puddles sliding over the water then moulding themselves to the shape of the land I am constantly inspired by the Island's colour responses to the weather.
