Charity pub quiz night
Join chef Matt Smith at The New Inn for a pub quiz raising funds for spinal research

Matt Smith has been living and working on Tresco for 5 summers and, last winter, suffered a serious snowboarding accident. Thanks to multiple operations and intense physio, he is now training for the London marathon in April 2027 and wants to raise as much money as possible for Spinal Research. Please gather your best team mates, come along to The New Inn and take part in our fundraising quiz and raffle, where there will be some FANTASTIC prizes!
"For 5 summers now I’ve been lucky enough to call these beautiful islands home working across the kitchen teams at The New Inn and The Ruin on Tresco," says Matt.
"Back in December I had a serious snowboarding accident were I broke my back and shattered my leg. I spent 2 weeks in hospital and after multiple surgeries to stabilise my vertebrae and fix my tibia I was repatriated back to the UK. I consider myself one of the lucky ones. We'll never know how close I came to paralysis or a spinal cord injury. After many many months of intense physio and rehab I am well on my way to making a full recovery and couldn’t be more grateful to be back here working again this summer.
In April 2027 I'm super excited to say that I'll be running the London marathon for Spinal Research and now have the mammoth task of raising as much money as I possible for a fantastic charity. Any donation, big or small would be hugely appreciated."
