Giving back: art for the island
Last Saturday, islanders and visitors gathered at Gallery Tresco to raise money for the Woodland Restoration Project
Standing room only at Gallery Tresco on Saturday evening, as islanders and guests gathered for an art auction entitled 'Art for the Island' in support of our Woodland Recovery Project.
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our Gallery Tresco artists, who donated every work without charge, and to our wonderful bidders, the evening raised an incredible £28,260.
The funds will help us with the long task of clearing, reimagining and replanting the island’s woodlands following the devastation of Storm Goretti in January: planting with care, building greater resilience and creating the shelterbelts of the future, with the landscape and its wildlife always in mind.
It is a chance not simply to replace what was lost, but to shape the woodlands that future generations will inherit.
Our heartfelt thanks to all the artists who contributed, to Anna and the entire team who worked so hard behind the scenes, to every bidder whose generosity made the evening such a success, and to our brilliant auctioneer Dean Whillis, who - unsurprisingly - proved remarkably adept at parting people from their money!
A remarkable total, a very special evening and a hopeful new chapter for Tresco’s woodlands.
