Senior Aerodrome Fire Officer

We have an exciting opportunity to join our friendly Heliport Firefighting/Ground Crew team, helping to supervise day-to-day maintenance of the aerodrome and the heliport building, check in passengers, assist with aircraft handling and luggage, and liaising with our island transport team.

The Role

In this supervisory role, you will be responsible for the heliport Rescue and Firefighting Service, ensuring and maintaining competence of the firefighting crew in accordance with CAA regulatory requirements, and planning, delivering and recording training.

First-class customer service will be provided, including checking passengers, handling luggage (up to 20kg) and assisting with embarkation and disembarkation from the aircraft. You will be able to build and maintain effective relationships with staff and guests, both new and returning, in order to continue the high standards of service across the island

Handling of vehicles, including fire vehicles, tractor and trailer, and 10-seater electric buses will be required. Vehicles will require inspection, with any defects to be reported to our Engineering department.

You will be well-versed in Health and Safety, adhering to emergency procedures and high safety standards at all times. Any risks will need to be identified and mitigated, whilst staying accountable for your actions and being compliant with all current regulations.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Full, clean driving licence (essential)
  • Supervisory or management experience in a similar field (essential)
  • Must have excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and work well as part of a team
  • Must be confident driving large vehicles
  • Must have a high standard of fitness (a medical assessment is required)
  • Fire Service Experience (in line with CAA Category H2 airfield standards) is desirable, although full training can be provided
  • Experience of Aerodrome Health and Safety is desirable, although full training can be provided
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance advantageous
  • First Aid Certificate advantageous
  • Be flexible, with a can-do attitude, as the role will sometimes require working subject to weather changes and delays
