Department: Hell Bay Hotel
Salary: Maintenance Manager - from £13.50 per hour, dependent on experience
Reservationist - from £13.00 per hour, dependent on experience
Benefits: Tips, accommodation and all meals provided (meals from March-October only)
Hours: Full time, 2 days off per week
Contract Length: Seasonal, October 2026 to October 2027 (Maintenance Manager with potential to become permanent)
The Role
Reservationist
You'll be responsible for welcoming and checking guests in and out of the hotel, making and assisting with hotel reservations and quotes, responding to emails, and undertaking administration and secretarial duties as required.
You will assist guests with general queries, as well as providing information regarding boat trips, local knowledge and informing guests of travel arrangements and pick up times.
Day to day tasks will include handling mail, daily hotel banking, listening to guest baby monitors in the evenings, and restocking the hotel shop, as well as processing shop transactions.
Standards will be maintained by ensuring the office is kept clean and tidy, and undergoing any additional training required to assist you in the role.
Maintenance Manager
The role will involve taking charge and managing a team, and prioritising and actioning all hotel maintenance requirements. You will ensure high standards of functionality, efficiency and health and safety throughout the property.
Responsibilities will include repairs of damaged facilities and equipment, painting and decorating, as well as assisting the Hotel Manager with coordinating renovations and additional projects. Regular duties will include swimming pool and plant room maintenance, maintenance of sewage systems, waste disposal from the hotel, and general gardening, ensuring all outdoor areas are well maintained.
You will be required to liaise with our wider Services and Maintenance team on Tresco for assistance with repairs, as well as meeting freight boats and transporting deliveries to the hotel.
The role may also require some guest-facing work, including assisting the Porter with transporting luggage to and from the quay, and meeting and greeting guests from the boat upon arrival.
Our Ideal Candidates
Reservationist
- English fluency and the ability to converse easily with a wide range of people, both in writing and verbally (essential)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software such as Outlook, Excel, Word and Access (essential)
- Must have a polite and friendly manner
- Able to work well as part of a team as well as alone
- Should have excellent customer service skills that can be evidenced
- Will be self-motivated with a proven ability to work in an organised and efficient manner
- Should have the ability to remain calm and professional in busy and high-pressure situations
- Must have ability to prioritise tasks effectively
- Previous work experience in a reception or reservations environment is desired
Maintenance Manager
- Experience in a similar role (essential), along with any qualifications or exposure to: electrics, plumbing, fire safety, carpentry, plant room management and relevant health and safety regulations.
- Full, clean UK driving licence (essential)
- A hands-on, can-do person with an eye for detail
- Able to prioritise conflicting demands and allocate budget accordingly
- Welcoming and helpful with friendly customer service
- Able to quickly pick up new skills in a new environment
- Proactive, self-motivated and able to work well both individually and as part of a larger team
- Good communication and people management skills
- Willing to work weekends and be on call two evenings per week
- Previous telehandler experience (desirable)
