Let the season begin!
The 2024 season has officially begun and we are looking forward to getting stuck in
After a winter complete with dramatic storms, island-wide building work and community events, we are delighted that the season is upon us.
To ensure that the island is looking its best for our first visitors of the season, refuse collector Sam led a community beach clean last weekend. The turn out was fantastic; bags and bags of litter were collected from our beaches and everyone gathered for hot chocolate to celebrate. Thanks to all who came - particularly guests who were staying on island at the time!
Our island community will also be marking the new season with a silent disco this weekend. The community centre will be full of food and headphones ready for old timers and new recruits alike to dance the night away!
It is always a lovely time of year when new arrivals land on Tresco and get stuck into island life. We look forward to seasonal staff starting their Tresco adventure this weekend.
The Ruin Beach Café has now reopened its doors and we can't wait to get in there! The menu features some of our favourite Ruin classics like Crab linguine and of course the infamous pizzas and seafood platters, but also some new additions. From a hearty fish stew to a lighter St Ives smoked mackerel niçoise salad, there is a dish for every occasion and mood, no matter the weather.
The New Inn is also back in full force and there is plenty to look forward to besides food and drink favourites like Fish and Chips, burgers and local draught ales. True Foxes - a folk/americana duo from Cornwall - will be playing live from 8:30pm on Tuesday 5th March to celebrate St Piran's Day. Moreover, there will be delicious food on offer for Mother's Day as well as activities to keep the little ones entertained! More information to come soon...
Finally, some news regarding all things floral. Tresco Abbey Garden propagator Emma Lainchbury has been showering our social media pages with fantastic pictures of the plants that are currently in bloom. Take a look for yourself and learn about some of the wonderful species that grace our gardens.
Moreover, Mike Nelhams - garden curator at large - has recently been at the West Cornwall Flower show in Marazion. Pictured below with Gary Long - Garden Director of Trewithen Garden - they were judging the tree and shrub section. The event marks 100 years since the West Cornwall Horticultural Society began and - due to our mild climes - it is always the earliest flower show in the country!
