At the heart of the island community
The Community Centre sits at the heart of island life on Tresco. Run by volunteers and completely separate from the estate, our committee would like to introduce themselves
Predominantly a space for islanders to use for gatherings, workshops and clubs, the Community Centre is an important part of the Tresco landscape. Particularly in the winter months, the hall is filled with people for quiz nights, karaoke and bingo and then into the summer, cricket and rounders see the field filled with people. The main event of the year is the Tresco fete (this year taking place on Sunday 9th August) and putting together all these events is no mean feat!
There is a common misconception that the island business is responsible for the Community Centre but in fact it is a wonderful team of volunteers who keep it going and we are so grateful to them. They give up lots of time to make sure this building remains at the centre of the community on Tresco and we hope that you can support them when you are next on the island.
Whether you purchase some raffle tickets or attend a quiz night, the committee look forward to meeting you soon.
Our committee
Chair
Lorraine has recently taken up the role of Chair after being part of the committee for several years and she gives her all to the community in every way. Lorraine works in the post office and as a wellbeing support but on her days off she is often at the Community Centre or walking her dog Poppy!
Vice chair
Pat has recently taken up the role of Vice Chair for the Community Centre and has got stuck in to organising ever since she moved to the island just a few months ago.
Treasurer
Andrea has been treasurer since she moved to the island over 5 years ago. Perfectly suited to the role, she is the Tresco Island Accounts Manager so is brilliant at keeping the committee (and their spending) in check!
And we have a much wider team of islanders who all muck in to help with events throughout the year. Part of the office, services or retail team by day, they give up their free time to help create experiences for locals and guests alike.
