Tresco Artists
Paul Lewin
I am always drawing, looking at the landscape from new angles, searching for a glimpse of an exciting composition. Sketches and notes are made on the spot and then I will return with my full kit of paints and mixed media, hoping to capture something of the enormity of the landscape that is before me. I try to finish my paintings in one sitting when outside because experience has told me that the weather cannot be trusted to repeat itself!
Quentin Martin
Since the work is predominantly produced en Plein air, for Quentin, it is as much about the journey, in search of the subject, as it is the subject itself.
Ramie Leahy
I traversed the island to catch its atmosphere, the views, the fishing boats and their catch from the deep sea.
Richard Guy
This island really is inspiring whatever the season.
Rosemary Trestini
This time I've tried to capture the timelessness and tranquillity of this unique place.
Saul Cathcart
The changeable weather and time limit to create the collection forced me to work fast and not overthink it. It excites me to paint in this intuitive and expressive way, out in the open. As a result, my paintings feel more like a collaboration with the place rather than a reproduction of it.
Sophie Harding
I’ve aimed to capture the feelings of pure joy, calm, seclusion and peace which I experience each time I visit Tresco.
Stephen Bishop
As I walked along the sparkling white sandy beach with turquoise sea in Tresco, I knew that I had found a place of wonder that I had longed for.
Stuart Kettle
From 'Wake up and Smell the Coffee’, 'Fish & Chips', a view from a 'Cottage Window' or a 'Walk on the Beach’, each painting is a reflection of time spent expressing everyday life on Scilly.
Tania Holland
Tania's amusing and tactile sculptures are decoupaged with magazine cuttings.
Teresa Pemberton
I love the way the tides send us gifts of sea glass or of shells or faded starfish.
Theo Crutchley-Mack
Spending one month on Tresco making sketches is the idyllic approach to escaping from reality and focusing on developing a body of paintings. Anyone who has visited Tresco would understand the escapist sensation that surrounds the island.
