Garden series in lockdown spring/summer 2020 Introducing this new collection of garden studies by Lizzie Black. During lockdown artist Lizzie Black was confined to the walls of her garden and home in Mousehole. Unable to go out plein air painting she put up her easel in the garden and took her still life work outside into the sunlight. Using the flower garden as a backdrop she has used collections of flowers and favourite old bottles and jugs. 'Rather than being presented with a harbour full of moored boats that I can’t physically move I can choreograph my own scene and by moving the bottles and vessels that I paint.’ This has turned out to play a large part of the whole creative process. Painting these studies has become a joy. The dancing light reflecting from a neighbouring jug or even the warmth of a shadow from a flower onto a surface are explored with equal curiosity and interest. This lively work radiates hopefulness and vitality.
