Shadow show for One and All! Twenty seven nautical miles off Lands End at the far southwestern tip of Cornwall, across the fabled sunken land of Lyonesse, lie the beautiful Isles of Scilly. This magical archipelago is comprised of six inhabited islands; St Agnes, Gugh, St Martins, Bryher, Tresco and St Mary’s plus a myriad other small rocky islets.
On St Mary’s eastern shore there is a small, tidal inlet called Porth Hellick. On its rocky northern outcrop, watching over the cove, fields, flowers and burial chambers beyond, sits Camel Rock...
Myths and legends, verse and rhyme
May shift and change with tide and time
But in the magic of Porth Hellick bay
A Camel sits this very day…..
A magical myth in verse and rhyme. The mysterious tale of how the iconic Scillonian landmark ‘Camel Rock’ came to be.
