Located in the most enviable of positions on New Grimsby shoreline, Gallery Tresco is a haven for art lovers. Some of Cornwall’s finest art can be found on the walls of this light and airy converted boatshed, which has been open for over 20 years.
Between the months of February and November 2013 the gallery hosts 9 exhibitions giving a platform to both established and new painters. In addition, the gallery stocks work from sculptors, potters, glass blowers and jewellers, not to mention all the wonderfully creative giftware that emerges year after year. To see examples of work from many of the artists who show at the Gallery please click on our Artwork pages.
Worth a mention too, is the ongoing Metal Sculpture exhibition by Tom Leaper featured within the Tresco Abbey Garden. Tom has created a large body of work which can be seen on the walls within the Garden and integrated into the flowerbeds, expressing how contemporary art can sit easily within a traditional surrounding. Another artist whose work can be seen outside of the gallery setting is ceramicist Adrian Brough. In 2012 Adrian was commissioned to decorate the pizza oven at the new beachside restaurant, The Ruin. Adrian designed and fired a tile panel to cover the outside of the oven with spectacular success. He also created the tiles which floor Lucy Dorrien-Smith’s shell house in the Abbey Garden. Tom and Adrian’s work is available on a smaller scale through Gallery Tresco.
If you are planning to visit the islands you may want to spend time viewing the Tresco Art Collection, some of which is housed at the Flying Boat Club and on Bryher at the Hell Bay Hotel. It is a rare opportunity to find such a noteworthy collection made so accessible to the public. The Collection continues throughout Tresco where original art from the likes of John Miller, Mary Fedden and Anthony Frost can be seen in the Timeshare cottages – a feature not to be found in many other holiday homes.
Gallery Tresco will be open from early February. To contact us call 01720 424925 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Visit us for the day or stay on the island at the New Inn or in one of the cottages at the Flying Boat Club or the Sea Garden development.
