September: our best kept secret
Book a last minute stay and bask in the September glow, with sandy toes and a cosy cottage
September is a magical time on Tresco. While autumn begins to take hold elsewhere, our island enjoys long, sun-drenched days and warm, golden evenings. In fact, Tresco boasts the longest September days in the UK – it’s why we refer to it as our secret summer.
With the crowds gone and the pace slower, September is perfect for rediscovering the simple pleasures. Spend your days beachcombing for cowries along quiet shores, wandering among the palms and red squirrels in the Abbey Garden, or taking a dip in the sea – often at its warmest this time of year.
Who says September has to mean back to work or school? Trade timetables for tidal rhythms, and swap deadlines for the comfort of a cosy cottage evening.
Whether you’re soaking up the sun at Appletree Bay and Green Porth or retreating to The New Inn as the autumn breeze rolls in, September offers the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.

Winter may be on the horizon, but it hasn’t reached Tresco just yet. The island is still alive with activity – from weekly yoga classes and live music at the New Inn, to the rare Low Tide Event (one of only two each year), there's plenty to enjoy.
Food lovers can look forward to the Taste of Scilly Festival, a celebration of island flavours that includes a tour of our Tresco beehives and popup Tapas Suppers at the Flying Boat.
If you're a budding ornithologist or nature enthusiast, you're in for a treat. Head to the north end of the island for a bracing walk through blooming heather, or keep your eyes on the skies and seas for sightings of Cormorants, Curlews, and Terns as you explore at your own pace or join a wildlife walk with expert Will Wagstaff.
With blackberries in season, quiet lanes perfect for cycling, and scenic paths just waiting to be explored, there's still time to extend your summer.
