Merrick

The middle cottage in this trio of west-coast island homes, Merrick is made for relaxed days between beach and garden. Farm Beach lies just below for swims, shell-hunting and low-tide wanders, while Flood Hatch, the outdoor pool, Tresco Stores, the Spa and Flying Boat Café & Deli are all close enough to shape the day without ever needing much of a plan.

Inside, Merrick’s downstairs space has a lovely sociable feel. Beyond the spacious ensuite bedroom, the cottage opens into a generous curve of kitchen, dining and sitting areas — a natural gathering place for family breakfasts, children sprawled on the sofa, beach bags by the door and supper being pulled together after a day outdoors. A wood-burning stove brings warmth and cosiness when the weather turns, while doors from both the lounge and downstairs bedroom lead out to the private garden.

Upstairs, the bedrooms enjoy wide views across Abbey Drive and out over Tresco Channel towards the uninhabited island of Samson. The cottage sleeps eight across four bedrooms, including a bunk room that works especially well for children. Zip-linked beds in the master, second and third bedrooms can be arranged as superking or twin by prior request, giving the layout useful flexibility for families or friends sharing.

Outside, the garden gives Merrick space to breathe - a private place for morning coffee, barbecues, children playing on the lawn or quiet moments after the beach. From time to time, you may find the island’s cattle or horses grazing in the neighbouring field, a gentle reminder of Tresco’s working landscape close by.
