The Cottage
From its elevated position, the cottage looks out across Scilly’s largest freshwater lake - a shifting landscape of reeds, water, birds and sky.
It is a wonderfully calming outlook, and one that gives Barn Flat a quieter, more nature-filled feel than almost anywhere else on the island. Step out onto the balcony, and the view seems to draw you in: still water, soft movement, and the gentle life of the Pool unfolding below.
Inside, Barn Flat is warm and welcoming, with a comfortable living space framed by picture windows that take full advantage of the view. A log burner adds a cosy feel on cooler evenings, while the three bedrooms all look out across fields and green space, with glimpses towards the Tresco Channel beyond.
Outside, the cottage has two distinct spaces for island days at home: a small lawn by the front door for catching the sun, and a separate patio tucked among colourful planting for outdoor meals in spring and summer. It is a lovely place to return to after a morning on the water, an afternoon in the Abbey Garden or a gentle wander through the lanes.
Though Barn Flat feels peaceful and tucked away, island life is close at hand. Tresco Stores, the Island Office, Flying Boat Café & Deli and the Spa are all just moments away, while nearby Flood Hatch and Farm beaches offer easy access to the water for swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding or simply sitting in the sun.
Quiet, comfortable and beautifully placed, Barn Flat is a cottage for those who love birdsong, water views and the gentler rhythm of Tresco’s countryside.

Our cottages are well-equipped with a comprehensive inventory, which includes kitchen appliances and equipment, bathrobes, hair dryers, and an outdoor BBQ with tools. Bathrooms come complete with 100 Acres shampoo, body wash and hand soap.
This property comes equipped with a dishwasher. There is no washing machine at the property, however laundry facilities are available centrally with a small cost payable per load.
The Location
Aside from its enviable position perched on the edge of the Great Pool, Barn Flat is also close to Flood Hatch and Farm beaches – both great spots for kayaking, paddle boarding, or simply basking in the sunshine.
The Abbey Garden is easily reached for an afternoon’s explorations, and Tresco Stores and the spa are almost on Barn Flat’s doorstep.
