Head of facilities and projects

As a key member of the Management team, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of capital projects on the Island and at Hell Bay Hotel and the management and deployment of the Island Services Team, which covers all on island and Hell Bay electrical requirements, plumbing, water and sewage, electrical appliances, building maintenance, heating and refrigeration.

There are currently a team of six services operative including the Services Manager.

The Services Manager has managerial responsibility for the Services Team.

We have a contractor who delivers our capital projects each winter, these include but are not limited to:

• Roads
• New Builds both domestic and commercial
• Complete refurbishments of commercial and domestic premises
• Quays

Job Role and responsibilities

You will be directly responsible for the following:

Planning and Development policy

• Ensure Tresco’s best interests are protected and enhanced in the 5-year Local Plan review and the Conservation Area Review

• Ensure Tresco’s best interests are protected and enhanced in negotiations with Statutory bodies in relation to future designations and other reviews such as future environmental designations

Capital projects


Tresco undertakes £1 -5m of capital projects per annum ranging from new vessels to £4.5m house builds. Your role is to ensure the smooth delivery of the construction projects.

• Developing a capital plan strategy for the next 3 years
• Identify and scope potential projects, looking at all options
• Agree projects to take forward with the CEO and Management Board
• Managing architects and planning process including archaeological and environmental assessments
• Managing the interface between the architects and contractors
• Managing the interface between the contractors and our interior designer
• Ensuring contractor has all free issue machinery in good working order when needed working closely with engineering
• Develop costings and budgets including Island on costs with the contractor/s
• Organise order and early delivery and storage of bulk purchased goods such as aggregates
• Ensure Asbestos surveys are shared with contractor/s
• Ensure all F10s and Bat Licences etc are in place
• Ensure decisions are taken in a timely manner to expedite the build
• Manage the project on time and to budget
• Ensure building control sign off
• Work with external contractors from SW Water, National Grid etc to ensure works are undertaken on Tresco in a satisfactory way including recharging
• Working closely with the health and safety officer to ensure safe delivery

As well as capital projects there is also a £1.5m repairs and renewals budget per annum for refurbishments of properties and our commercial outlets. You will be responsible for developing the repairs and renewals programme with Heads of Department across the business.

You will ensure that works are carried out supported by the Services Manager and the Cottages Manager.

The Services Team is responsible for all reactive and proactive repairs on the Islands they are also contractors for SW Water undertaking sewage and fresh water checks and repairs and maintenance. This contract is managed within this role and you will be responsible for negotiating rates, terms and conditions and invoicing on a monthly basis.

You will be responsible for directing and managing the Services Manager and supporting the team to deliver their objectives.

Experience, Knowledge and Qualifications

Delivery of multi-million-pound projects in the private sector

Project Management or planning qualifications

Working knowledge of legislation and best practice

Experience of managing teams both directly and contractor teams

Experience of developing capital projects in a highly protected environment

Experience of managing construction risk
