Freight Operative
We’re looking for a self-motivated individual to join our Freight team in this hands-on role for the 2026 season. As part of our freight team, you’ll be part of the lifeline that supplies our island in this practical, energetic role.

Department: Engineering, Freight and Waste
Salary: From £13.50 per hour, dependent on experience
Benefits: Accommodation provided
Hours: Full Time, 40-48 hours per week
Contract Length: Seasonal, April-October
The Role
In this practical role, you will be responsible for unloading and delivering various freight to our outlets and residential homes across the island. You will liaise and work with the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company and St Mary's Quay to ensure that all cargo boats are met at the desired times whilst on and off loading freight in a safe and efficient manner.
As well as delivering all freight, you will be responsible for keeping the freight areas clean and tidy, and be well versed on Health and Safety requirements within the freight department at all times.
Occasionally, assistance within our waste collection team will also be required.
Our Ideal Candidate
- Essential – Full, clean UK driving licence
- Desirable – forklift licence, HGV licence, Hazardous Goods licence
- Will be a natural problem solver
- Be able to balance competing priorities
- Have good communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to manage flexible workloads at different times of the year
