Coastguards

Perched above New Grimsby harbour, Coastguards is a whitewashed island cottage with panoramic views across Tresco Sound towards Samson, Bryher and the sweep of the neighbouring islands.

At A Glance

The Cottage

This is a cottage with two sides of Tresco at its feet. Below, the harbour, New Inn and Gallery Tresco sit within easy reach, making boats, supper and island life wonderfully close. Just a few metres from the front gate, a rugged path leads north towards wilder ground, where purple heather, open skies and sea views make the island feel altogether more remote.

Inside, Coastguards is full of simple, rustic character. Whitewashed walls, low ceilings and an open-plan kitchen, dining and living space give the cottage a relaxed, unpretentious feel, while the log burner brings warmth and cosiness on cooler evenings. Upstairs, exposed beams add to the charm, with bedrooms tucked beneath the roofline and views back towards the harbour and landscape beyond.

The cottage sleeps up to eight, with three bedrooms in the main house, a double sofa bed available on request, and a separate annexe in the garden offering a little extra privacy from the group. Flexible zip-linked beds can be arranged as superking or twin by prior request, while three bathrooms, including two ensuites, make Coastguards practical for families or friends sharing.

Outside, the cottage offers space to settle into the day. To the front, a pretty patio punctuated by colourful blooms makes the most of the harbour outlook, while the long, sprawling back garden leads to a stile into the neighbouring field - a lovely sense of openness and connection to the island beyond.

Characterful, comfortable and wonderfully placed, Coastguards is a cottage for those who want harbour life close by, wilder walks on the doorstep, and far-reaching views from a classic Tresco lookout.

Our Favourite Thing

We love the patio space at the front, punctuated by colourful blooms.

The Location

Enjoying panoramic views across Tresco sound and neighbouring islands Samson and Bryher, Coastguards is one of a row of three quaint cottages.

Just a few metres from the front gate is a rugged, rocky path to the north end of the island, which is covered in springy purple heather and feels a whole world away. Coastguards just a short sprint from New Grimsby quay should you find yourself running late for the boat!
