Transitional Tranquillity: Tresco’s Autumnal Aura
There are a whole host of ways to discover Tresco this autumn; from food-fuelled festivities to mindful escapes, sumptuous spa days to nourishing nature. Plan an autumnal retreat on Tresco and have all this and more to look forward to.
Autumn on Tresco is your time. Let the romance of the island draw you in as you explore its hidden coves, winding coastal paths and heather-clad hills. Whether you’re looking for time to reconnect with your partner, planning a group adventure fuelled by good food and wine, or seeking splendid isolation for yourself amongst the wilds of the Atlantic, you’ll discover it here.
Tumble out of a sleepy, holiday cocoon for a Tresco sunrise – occurring at a much more civilised hour during the latter third of the year. Spend days discovering deserted beach after deserted beach, marvelling at the mild temperatures. Perhaps a storm will roll in and you can hole up in your cottage as its windows mist with seaspray – or for the brave, don your wellies and watch as froth-topped waves unfurl onto the rocky outcrops of Tresco’s north coast.
Island colours evolve from lush green to russet tones and as night falls, stars litter the inky sky. The Flying Boat snug beckons for hot chocolates – best enjoyed with flushed cheeks after a dip in the indoor pool. Afternoon pints at the New Inn bar seem all the more civilised (and necessary!) after windswept walks.
This is the perfect time of year for a cottage holiday. Whether you choose a sleek Sea Garden or Flying Boat property or a characterful traditional cottage, you’ll rejoice in stoking up the log burner at the end of the day, perusing the bookshelves or simply losing yourself in the view.
Taste of Scilly month
If you choose to visit in September, there’s the added bonus of Taste of Scilly Festival – a month-long foodie celebration across the islands.
From lunches at the Crab Shack, a truly unique island dining experience, to special six-course tasting menus at the Flying Boat, ale & cider festival weekends at the New Inn, to pop-up parties on the seabed, you won’t be left hungry.

October short breaks
If you’re drawn to October’s calming allure, you might like our short breaks.
The Taste of Tresco Foodie Break centres on a gourmet tour of the island – stay four nights and enjoy dinner at a different island eatery each night, choosing your favourite to return to for your final eve.
Savour the seafood-themed menu at the Flying Boat, working your way through considered platefuls of the freshest local fish and shellfish.
Feed your appetite with the New Inn’s hearty dishes; whether it’s a classic fish & chips you’re craving, or something a little more elaborate such as slow cooked pork belly with fondant potatoes and red wine jus, you’ll leave feeling satisfied.
And overindulge at the Ruin on wood fired pizza, colourful, generous sharing platters, and Mediterranean-inspired fare such as crab linguine and gnocchi with creamy corn fed chicken.
Or for those seeking self-care, treat yourself on our Spa Break. It includes an hour-long treatment at our Tresco Island Spa, with a range of therapies designed to soothe emotionally exhausted souls, you’ll choose from the likes of facials, body renewal treatments or massages.
Aside from your treatment, you’ll have unlimited access to the Spa facilities - any spits of October rain are best witnessed from the warmth of the indoor pool, and you’ll barely hear the occasional gust of autumn wind over the gentle rumble of the Jacuzzi.
