12 months of Tresco - A Look Ahead at 2020
A look ahead to all the Tresco fun to come in 2020…
January
As we emerge from the twinkling, joyful festivities, we’re excited to launch a new winter break available throughout January and February. Our Sea Garden winter break lets you take in all the wonderful wild of an island winter, whether it’s waves crashing upon our north coastline or the tip-tap of rain on the window as you switch off in our indoor pool. Our Sea Garden Apartments are an ideal romantic bolthole – why not join us for this four-night break?
If you need a little more space to spread out, check out our Winter Cottage Breaks. Stay for as little as three nights or join us for a full week’s escape in our luxurious Flying Boat Cottages. You’ll be perfectly positioned to watch the rolling swell of the Tresco Channel, and the log warmer will keep you cosy on those winter nights.
February
February sees our Sea Garden winter breaks and our Winter Cottage Breaks continue – there’s still time to get your Tresco winter fix!
We’re also excited to launch our dog friendly month – bring your pooch and make our Flying Boat Cottages your base for island-wide adventures. We’ve shared our favourite dog walks if you’re in need of a little inspiration!
Let’s not forget February half term – just contact our reservations team if you’re looking for a family friendly cottage for the holidays.

March
As spring unfurls across the island, we’ll be welcoming guests on our Watergate Bay Break, which returns for 2020. Guests will spend two nights in coastal luxury at our Sea Garden Apartments, before flying back to the mainland to spend two nights at Watergate Bay. We love Watergate Bay and would recommend this southwest retreat to anyone that loves to embrace the elements and soak up the sea salt.
March also sees our popular Guitar Retreat take place – at present there’s just one space remaining so if you’d like to take part, be quick!
We’re counting down to the 17th March, which sees the launch of the Penzance Helicopters service! This long-awaited service will include direct flights from Penzance to Tresco as well as St. Mary’s – the best way to arrive for your Tresco break.
April
As April rolls in, so do the Easter holidays – we still have a few larger properties available if you’re looking for quality family time. As an added bonus, our first Low Tide Event of the year takes place on Good Friday (10th April) with the first Gallery Tresco 2020 exhibition falling the day after (Saturday 11th) – all the more reason to come and see us!
During mid-April, two new active breaks feature in our calendar. We'll be welcoming Olympian Keri-anne Payne to Tresco as she leads a small group in an introduction to cold water swimming, with a focus on refining stroke technique and inspiring open-water swims amongst the archipelago.
As we move through the month, late April features our Spring Nature Break – join Scilly nature enthusiast Will Wagstaff as you discover the unique flora and fauna across the islands.

May
We’re already looking forward to balmy May days, even moreso as the islands are set to come alive for the annual World Pilot Gig Championships – a vibrant weekend of sporting cheer. If you’re looking for accommodation for the event either as a spectator or with your gig crew, we might be able to help! You can even stay on and enjoy our second Low Tide Event of the year, taking place on the 8th May.
For a slightly more relaxing (!) Scilly experience, check out our May Yoga Retreat – tutor and friend of Tresco Lucy Aldridge will be leading a series of intimate Iyengar yoga classes for retreatants in amongst plenty of downtime to explore the island.
May is truly the month for creative pursuits across the island - as well as the Creative Scilly Festival celebrated across the islands, we’ll be hosting our first Painting Break of the year in collaboration with the prestigious Newlyn School of Art. Paul Lewin will lead the first group.
We also can’t wait to welcome Seth Lakeman back to the island – Seth will play an evening set at the New Inn on Saturday 23rdMay.
June
Blissful, long island days await in June. Two further painting breaks will be taking place during June, making the most of the incredible island light. Choose from expert advice from Anita Reynolds or Amanda Hoskin, who will both be leading a June break.
Marvel at the superhuman competitors in June’s Otillo Swimrun event – now a regular feature on our island calendar, participants race an epic course across multiple islands and the seas in-between.

July
We currently have a final few cottages available during the school holidays, as well as availability in the New Inn and our Sea Garden Apartments. Can you hear the call of a Scilly summer?
July sees regular exhibitions take place at Gallery Tresco, with the shows changing over every ten days. Join us for a drinks reception and browse the work by a selection of artists inspired by Tresco scenes.
August
Time for barbecues and beach days, island hopping and exploring. Our summer Low Tide Event will take place on the 21stAugust, with live music from The Fabulous 59 Ford.

September
We love September on Tresco – not quite summer, yet the days are still warm and bright. This month, you can gain inspiration from our world-famous Abbey Garden on our Garden Design Break, as curator Mike Nelhams and landscape architect John Moreland impart their knowledge and tips to aid your botanical projects.
We’ll be rounding off our 2020 Low Tide Events with an event on the 20th September – this time Scuppered will be joining us to play a lively folksy set. September also sees the last Gallery Tresco exhibition of the year take place.
At the very end of the month we’ll be welcoming participants for our Writing Retreat, who’ll take advantage of Tresco’s inspirational landscape and expert tutorage from established writer Hannah Dennison.
October
We’ll be launching a new break in October – the Tresco Photography Break is open to all levels of ability. Landscape photographer Ross Hoddinott will provide friendly, practical and bespoke advice on camera-handling skills, composition and creativity to an intimate group.
Also new for 2020 is our Yoga & Wellbeing Break – Bryher islander Gem Hansen is joined by Billy Harrigan to head up the retreat, which combines yoga, meditation, mindful walks and Tresco’s unique tonic in an uplifting cocktail.

November
Keep an eye out for winter retreats in November – see a different side of Tresco and have the whole island to yourself.
December
We’re starting to plan a very Tresco Christmas for 2020 and we’d love to have you here. Contact our reservations team for info and start counting down the days until next year’s seasonal celebrations!
