Serendipity, Safety and Strangers: Going Solo on Tresco
We discover what makes Tresco a perfect destination for solo travellers...
“It’s just so friendly!” This is perhaps the most common utterance overheard from first time visitors to Tresco – and to the Isles of Scilly in general.
Scilly often feels like taking a step back in time, to a time when people stopped to speak in the street, and strangers exchanged greetings and pleasantries about the weather, the view or the magnificence of the white sand beach.
It is this friendliness – this sense of ease and affability in the air – that makes Tresco the perfect destination for solo travelers.
Solo travel can, at first, seem a daunting prospect. On Tresco, though, concerns over personal safety, or lack of companionship, can be left behind.
Besides, travelling solo is often the best way to discover somewhere new. You can be more spontaneous, more open to new experiences, more likely to strike up a conversation – and a friendship – with new people. They say a stranger is just a friend you haven’t yet met. You can decide when and where you eat, and what activities you want to do – or not do (what better than a day spent lost in a good book on a white sand beach?)
On Tresco we have a number of accommodation options with no added supplement for those traveling solo. Current availability includes:
A cosy and beautiful whitewashed granite cottage located near the Church at the heart of the island. Outside, Rose Cottage enjoys an informal lawned garden with established shrubs backing onto pasture, whilst inside the log burner keeps the cottage cosy throughout the year.
