Philip Naylor

Tresco gave me four seasons in every day of my study visit.  I snatched drawing opportunities in dazzling morning sun, in the lee of rhododendron thickets or ancient pines, beneath granite overhangs as squalls hurtled in, against winds ripping at the pages….and in the still moments of a glowing dusk. After, the brilliance remains, in stains on the page and bruises on my legs, in patchy sketches, but seared into the memory.  Drawings were finished, and now, in the printmaking workshop, these moments resonate again, conjured with brush and roller from the inked plate. The island continues to inspire.
