I am very lucky to have been invited to participate in the Sea Garden show - with such an attractive range of marine themed titles to work with.
I was drawn to pair these subjects with sea life in my compositions. I have a theory that fishes may be the perfect subjects for still life study: colour, surface pattern, reflectivity, perfect outlines honed by nature, and so much three dimensional form to describe with sculptural light and shade, these are all fascinating to examine. What's more I think the creatures can even be read as beautiful metaphors for the sea itself.
