For the Sea Garden exhibition, we were asked to use the names of the new cottages for inspiration. Pebble, Rockpool, Seagrass and Pearl immediately caught my attention. I was in the middle of a major move at the time so I was very grateful to have this commission. These paintings virtually took me on gentle summer evening walks along Pentle Bay or North End, gorse smelling of cinnamon, paddling ankle deep at low tide, Old Grimsby.
I hope I was able to capture the sense of tranquillity and peace I always find on Tresco. In my memories, the sun shines, the light is beautiful, the air sweet and I'm feeling good. These paintings were all done by memory.
