Colossus Display Opens
On 6th May a small gathering met at the History Room in the Abbey Gardens to mark an important moment for the islands' heritage. Vice-chairman of the Isles of Scilly Local Action Group Bill Wilson presents the Isles of Scilly Maritime Heritage Trust's Robert Dorrien-Smith with a plaque to mark the generous help given to the Colossus project by the Local Action Group.
The display has as its centrepiece a large stern-quarter figure of a classical warrior taken from the wreck of HMS Colossus, which sank off Samson in 1798. It is open to all and there is no admission charge to view this important exhibit of both local and international maritime history.
